Stockpile rotation calendar

Choose when you'd like to be reminded. You'll get a calendar file with reminders that repeat every six months. It's made in your browser, so nothing is sent anywhere.

What should we remind you about?

How it works

The government's Be Ready checklist suggests setting a reminder every six months to check expiry dates, swap out items that need replacing, and update your kit if your household's needs have changed. This tool turns that into calendar entries you only have to add once.

Food: check the dates, then move older stock to the front and put new stock behind it, so the oldest gets eaten first. Passing a best before date doesn't mean throwing something out, but anything past a use-by date should go.

Water: replace water you've bottled yourself every six months. That's US advice from Ready.gov and the CDC, because we haven't found a UK figure for it. For shop-bought water, go by the date on the bottle.

Kit: check batteries, your power bank, medicines and copies of documents, and think about whether anything has changed at home.

Adding it: on an iPhone or Mac, open the file and choose Add All. In Google Calendar, use Import in the settings, on a computer. In Outlook, open the file. Each entry is an all-day event with a reminder at 9am, if your calendar supports that.

Example: start on 2 November 2026, and the reminders fall on 2 May and 2 November every year after that.

Common questions

How often should I rotate my stockpile?

Be Ready suggests checking dates every six months. Between checks, the simple habit is to eat from the front and add to the back.

What does first in, first out mean?

Use the oldest stock first. Put what you've just bought behind what you already have, so nothing gets stuck at the back and goes past its date.

Why did my date move to the 28th?

Calendars skip a monthly repeat in any month that doesn't have that date, so a reminder on the 31st could vanish for a year. We use the 28th, so it always appears.

Is anything personal in the file?

No. It contains only the wording of the three reminders and your dates, and it's made on your device. We never see it.

Can I stop the reminders?

Yes. Delete the event in your calendar and choose all future events.
