Food rotation calendar
Choose when you'd like to be reminded. You'll get a calendar file with reminders that repeat every six months. It's made in your browser, so nothing is sent anywhere.
What should we remind you about?
We've moved a date to the 28th, so it repeats in every month.

How it works
Ready.gov and the CDC say to replace water you've bottled yourself every six months. That's the one fixed date in home storage, so this tool uses the same schedule for your food and kit. The six months for food is our suggestion, so everything gets checked together.
Food: USDA says to check your pantry every few weeks and use canned goods you've had on hand for a while, so treat this as the full check, not the only one. Check dates, move older stock to the front, and put new stock behind it. Don't buy or use infant formula after its Use-By date.
Water: replace water you've bottled yourself. For store-bought water, the CDC says to follow the date on the bottle.
Kit: Ready.gov says to replace expired items as needed, and to rethink your needs every year. Check flashlight batteries, your backup battery, medicines and copies of documents.
Adding it: on an iPhone or Mac, open the file and choose Add All. In Google Calendar, use Import in the settings, on a computer. In Outlook, open the file. Each entry is an all-day event with a reminder at 9 a.m., if your calendar supports that.
Example: start on November 2, 2026, and the reminders fall on May 2 and November 2 every year after that.
Common questions
How often should I rotate my food storage?
USDA says to check your pantry every few weeks and use canned goods you've had for a while. Ready.gov says to replace expired items as needed. A six-month check is a good backstop.
What does first in, first out mean?
Use the oldest stock first. Put what you've just bought behind what you already have, so nothing gets stuck at the back.
How often should I change stored water?
Ready.gov and the CDC say every six months for water you've bottled yourself. For store-bought water, follow the date on the bottle.
Why did my date move to the 28th?
Calendars skip a monthly repeat in any month that doesn't have that date, so a reminder on the 31st could vanish for a year. We use the 28th, so it always appears.
Is anything personal in the file?
No. It contains only the wording of the three reminders and your dates, and it's made on your device. We never see it.
