Severe weather checklists
Each list covers one kind of weather, in order: what to have, what to do before, and what to do when it's forecast. Pick one, tick things off and print it. Nothing leaves this browser.

How it works
The lists use the government's Be Ready hazard pages, with the UK Health Security Agency for heat and the British Red Cross for what to keep in the car. We've reworded them, put them in order and made them tick-off lists. This is an independent tool.
Weather warnings come from the Met Office. Check them before you act, and follow any advice from your council or the emergency services over anything on these pages.
Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have their own flood and resilience services. Be Ready's pages link to them.
Common questions
What should I do when a weather warning is issued?
Check the Met Office warning for your area and follow its advice. Be Ready's hazard pages say what to do for each kind of weather, and our lists put that in order.
What do all these checklists have in common?
Water, food that needs no cooking, medicines, a torch, a charged phone and a list of numbers. If you have those, you've done most of it. Start with the Be Ready checklist.
Which hazards aren't covered here?
These are the three where official advice gives enough to make a real list. Be Ready has pages on power cuts, water outages and more.
Where can I find local flood or storm advice?
Be Ready links to Ready Scotland and nidirect, and has a page on checking the risks where you are.
